School Council

Our School Council is a valued partnership between parents, staff, community members and the Principal, working together to support the ongoing success of our school.

We welcome parents and carers who are passionate about contributing to school improvement and helping shape the future direction of Parkhill Primary School.

School Council elections are held annually, typically in February or March. Parents and carers are invited to nominate, with members elected by the school community. Once elected, members may also participate in one or more subcommittees.

Role of School Council

School Council plays an important role in the governance of the school, including:

  • Supporting the strategic direction and educational priorities of the school
  • Overseeing the maintenance and future development of school facilities and grounds
  • Promoting a positive school culture and community engagement

Why join our school council?

When people ask me why I joined School Council and why I’ve stayed involved, the simple reason is that it gives you a genuine understanding of how the school your children are part of actually operates. As a parent who has had three children attend this school, with two still here, being on School Council has allowed me to see first‑hand how decisions are made and how the school works every day to support our kids.

Being a School Councillor gives me insight into the resources the school has, how funding works, and how decisions are made about where those resources are best allocated to give our children the best possible education. You gain a deeper appreciation of the careful thinking that goes into balancing learning, wellbeing and long‑term planning.

School Council also offers the opportunity to be involved in the bigger picture through strategic planning. This can be through understanding how schools balance priorities, respond to change and plan responsibly for the future.

Importantly, it’s not just about understanding how things work. A strong and vibrant School Council can genuinely contribute to shaping priorities, act as a sounding board for school leaders, and help identify and support new initiatives that improve the school, strengthen the community and create even better opportunities for our children.

If you want to contribute in a meaningful way, joining School Council is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference.

Parents & Friends Association

The Parkhill Primary School PFA plays a vital role in supporting fundraising initiatives that directly benefit our students and school community.

While membership roles are flexible, there are three key positions that support the effective operation of the PFA: President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Most members contribute in a way that suits their availability—there are no set hours and no requirement to attend every meeting. The PFA is a welcoming and inclusive group, and all support is appreciated, whether regular or occasional.

Our events are made possible through the generous involvement of parents, extended family members, and friends of the school community. These include parent-focused events such as Mother’s Day and Father’s Day stalls, student favourites like the Colour Fun Run and School Disco, and whole-community celebrations such as Fun, Food & Carols.

I initially joined the Parkhill PFA as a way to meet other parents and get involved in the school community, all of whom share a desire to build a strong school spirit. The PFA can be as big or as small a commitment as you want it to be.

You get to meet so many wonderful people who are always ready to share a laugh and put in the effort to create something special for the school community. We raise fantastic funds that help support the school, ensuring our kids have a positive, engaging, and friendly environment to learn and grow.
