Our Specialty Programs

Parkhill's powering full STEAM ahead with our new program!
STEAM
The STEAM framework pulls together the five disciplines:
  • Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Arts
  • Mathematics
Our STEAM curriculum at Parkhill highlights the connections and synergies between them. Our specialist STEAM teacher, Mrs. Andrea Crane, has an infectious enthusiasm for teaching. She often says about math and sciences:
By introducing them to students early we can spark their interest and engage their curiosity about the world around them.

STEAM subjects are intrinsically valuable for the knowledge they teach, but also encourage:

  • critical thinking
  • communication
  • collaboration
  • creativity
  • innovation
Students will cover learning in all the STEAM subjects throughout the school year. The emphasis on STEAM complements Parkhill’s prized green spaces, science kitchens and much-loved garden program. See more of our facilities here.
Parkhill’s “5E” learning framework adopts the sequence: engage, explore, explain, elaborate and evaluate. This gives students the opportunity to question and learn about STEAM concepts and then apply their learning to new situations. We launch our new program in 2022, which will also provide another way to engage with the Parkhill community. The school will be running family STEAM sessions for parents and children to join us  for some great hands-on learning. Stay tuned for the launch of our new STEAM program in Term 1, 2022!
Chinese mandarin
Ni hao! Students at Parkhill explore the fascinating Chinese culture and language through participation in weekly Mandarin lessons. The program focuses on developing student’s second language skills in the four main components of listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as developing cultural awareness and enrichment.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION

We aim for all students to acquire the necessary skills to actively participate in sports and games in a fun and supportive environment. From development of fundamental motor skills (run, kick, throw, catch, jump, bounce) in the junior years to specific sports, strategy and the importance of a healthy lifestyle in the senior years, there is plenty of fun to be had.

Our school values naturally lead to our students taking risks and striving for improvement, whilst learning new forms of play and how to use equipment safely.

performing arts
Music, dance and drama provide students the opportunity to create, communicate and express themselves. Hands-on and interactive lessons engage the students in critical and creative thinking and help them understand themselves and the world while having enormous fun. Digital technologies also form an important and engaging part of the program.
Gardening
Our school garden is always buzzing with activity. All students have the opportunity to spend time in our kitchen garden program. With expert instruction from Cultivating Communities, students learn to grow plants and edibles, tend to the garden, compost their scraps and learn about sustainability. The garden program further complements Parkhill’s strong focus on STEAM, especially science and art. But the highlight for many is of course… cooking!
