The Parkhill Community touch the land and think of the Wurundjeri People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land we promise to treasure it; taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways.
We at Parkhill appreciate this land.
Thank you.
Principal's Message
We end another exciting week here at Parkhill with yesterday’s amazing event: what a fabulous way to celebrate our school’s vibrant community with the PFA’s Colour Run! A big thank you to Zoe and all the volunteers who helped out yesterday. Here is the view from the top of the hill (where I remained relatively colour free and certainly very dry!):

A reminder that if you are intending to help out at events that you must have a current Working With Children Check lodged at out office. Australia-wide this is a requirement for anyone visiting onsite to schools who may have contact our students. This is very easy to obtain online and once lodged with the office you can help out at all of our incredible events or in classrooms with our students.
This week we have also been very busy with the process of organising school leadership positions for next year. Our students recently participated in a leadership day with external providers, and all of the students found this valuable. Interestingly, the take home message from the workshops was also about all Y6s as being leaders, and how all of us have leadership qualities. I want to commend all the students who were brave enough to submit applications, and those who went on to round two (being interviews) – they have all shown courage and resilience.
Looking towards the next few weeks we have a busy period again with swimming, finalising students’ assessments, welcoming our new Foundation students, the Scholastic Book Fair and Fun, Food & Carols. We certainly will be busy!
Enjoy your weekend everyone.

Choir performing at Family Fun Day - This weekend!
The Parkhill Choir has been invited to perform at the Family Fun Day at Batesford Reserve on Sunday 19 November. The event will take place 11am – 4pm with the choir performing on stage at 12pm. Choir members will gather at 11:40am by the main stage to warm up prior to our performance at 12pm – 12:15pm. Children are the responsibility of their parents and need to be supervised at the event which will feature live entertainment, community and kid’s activities, food trucks and roving performers. Students are to be dressed in their school uniform with neat hair for their performance please. All members of our school community are welcome to attend. We would love to see you there!
Parent Payments
The 2024 Parent Payments were sent via Compass this past week. Included in these payments are the local agreement questions regarding local excursion permission, photo permission and Class Reps contact permission. Please make sure that when you are completing these payments that you answer these questions too. If the questions are not answered, your child will be excluded from these lists.
Steam Update
How nice it was this week to get our hands messy with clay creations. Students in Y4/5 worked on personal projects sculpting their individual designs. The teaching focus included secure joins, which we will evaluate in the weeks to come, as our sculptures dry and either hold together or do not. Finding a clay sculpture in two pieces because of a poor join is not a failure, but a fabulous learning opportunity. It is also a suitable time to use our critical and creative thinking to solve the challenge of repairing the join before painting starts.
We Need Newspapers!
The STEAM room is in dire need of newspapers. While most people read their news online these days, if you or someone you know still buys a paper copy, we would love to reuse them in the STEAM room. Newspaper donations can be handed in at the office or dropped in to the STEAM room.

Dear Parkhill families,
A book fair is a celebration of reading, building community and spreading knowledge.
Come to our Book Fair! Sessions next Monday 20 November to Wednesday 22 November at the following times:
- 8:45-9:15am
- 3:15-3:45pm
Admittance will be via the front office.
Students had the opportunity to browse through the books today with their class, and may have come home with their wish list. There was much excitement among students browsing through the books.

We are only accepting card payments at the Fair, no cash please. If you are unable to come and would like your child to purchase books, you are able to use the pre-payment option.
How to use the pre-payment option:
- Go to https://scholastic.com.au/book-fairs/payments/
- Click <Proceed>
- Change ‘State’ to <VIC> and enter <parkhill> in school name field
- Select <Parkhill Primary School>
- The payment screen will appear – enter your details
- Record the receipt number and amount paid
IMPORTANT: Kindly ensure you record the receipt number and email a screenshot to me along with the book information, and I will organise the book(s) for you.
There are usually 3 copies of each item and we will keep a ‘last copy’ on the shelf. These are usually books which prove popular and orders will be placed for items which run out. They will be delivered after the Fair, so please let your child know that they may have to wait.
There are also some special packs (books with a pencil or toy) and Christmas books on offer this year. These will be at the payment table and are on a first come basis only.
Parent helpers
We are still seeking help during the Fair. Please let me know if you are available to assist.
The last brochure for the year is out and you should have received one this week. Here is the online link to Issue 8 – Book Club Issue 8 2023.
Orders close Thursday 30 November and can be placed at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or by using the LOOP app.
If you have any questions or need help with the pre-payment function, please get in touch via email or leave a message at the office.
Hope to see you at the Fair!

Sock Fundraiser

Put your best foot forward… The PFA is doing a SOCK fundraiser again this year! This is a great gift or stocking stuffer idea with fun designs available for every sized foot. Socks are priced at just $7 or $8 per pair and our school will receive a percentage from every pair sold. We will also receive a bonus if we sell over 100 pairs – now that’s a goal worth aiming for! Order yours by Sunday 26th November for pre-Christmas delivery via school before the end of term.
Make sure you use this link when ordering for our school to benefit:

Christmas Raffle
Christmas is on the horizon and ticket books for our annual Christmas Raffle can be found in your child’s school bag on Wednesday! Buy the whole book yourselves or ask family and friends to buy a ticket or two to support our little school.
Donations are also needed to make our Christmas raffle a success! We are looking for a “big ticket” item that people will be keen to win as the 1st prize, as well as lots of smaller treats to make prize hampers. These might be things such as Christmas baskets, wine, chocolates, biscuits and shortbread, small games, Christmas craft packs or other smaller items that can be combined to make a festive prize!
Please drop donations for raffle prizes at the office by Friday 24th November and please get in touch with PFA if you can connect us with a major 1st prize item!
Extra ticket books will be available from the office for keen ticket sellers and we will also be selling tickets at Fun, Food & Carols!

Fun, Food & Carols
It’s almost that time of year! Look forward to seeing everyone there.
We are inviting anyone that would like to have a stand to please contact Zoe (0459 841 337) to book. Regular Stands are $20, students stands are $5.
