The Parkhill Community touch the land and think of the Wurundjeri People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land we promise to treasure it; taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways.
We at Parkhill appreciate this land.
Thank you.
Principal's Message
It seems like not much time has passed since I first joined the Parkhill community; I can’t believe we are in the second last week of term!
Along with our Y4-6s, I attended Ashwood High School’s dress rehearsal of The Wizard of Oz last Friday. At the beginning of the rehearsal one of the Vice Principals addressed all the primary school students attending. She started her address by saying how she was a proud Vice Principal of Ashwood High School, and how, when students from outside the school visit, they too were included into their community. While this meant that we were welcomed, we were also expected to uphold the values that all students who attend the high school are held to. She continued her speech by saying that respect is a key element of their school, and how everyone is accountable to each other. On the way home I reflected upon what it means to be “school proud”, and how our Parkhill students represented themselves in exemplary fashion. Our students lined up and waited patiently, sat quietly and respectfully and were an excellent audience. Our Y4-6s really did Parkhill proud on this day: congratulations to them all from a proud principal!
This week we held one of our final cooking and gardening masterclasses for this term (more on this later in the newsletter). I’ve been really enjoying spending time in class with the Foundation and Y6 students. Mrs P has certainly put us all through our paces making fabulous flatbreads, using all the produce from our garden (herbs and oil). A big thank you to Mrs P who instructed the class and ensured everyone had a tasty flatbread at the end of the class. Also a big thank you to the amazing parents who volunteered for the garden sessions – you made the garden sessions run so much easier for everyone.
Finally, thank you to the people who have responded to the “Parkhill brand” survey – the link is below again for you if you wish to share your thoughts on our brand, logo and uniform:

Salaka Drumming Incursion and Performance
Acrobatics, dance, instrument playing and drumming made for a highly engaging and enjoyable Friday afternoon for staff and students alike as we enjoyed the Salaka Drumming Incursion on Friday 18th August. This was followed by a performance today by the students to showcase what they have learned this term. Our guest performers from Ghana, Appiah and Yoga wowed the audience with their amazing skills and had everyone drumming and dancing their way into the weekend.

Garden Cooking Report 2023
This week, the Y6 and Foundation students made focaccia bread, a bread made with self raising flour and Greek yoghurt (a ratio of 1:1). The bread is seasoned with oregano, sea salt, and our school-made olive oil.
It was really enjoyable for all of us Y6s to help the Foundations in their first cooking session (The bread smelled delicious)!
It was a long process of sticky dough and constantly sprinkling flour, with the additional sticky fingers, however, in the end, we got an amazing, delicious, savoury treat which was worth every second spent.
Everyone had a go at all the steps, even if they were a bit tricky and (slightly) messy at first, but everyone managed and in the end, our efforts paid off!
100% RECOMMEND THIS RECIPE! YUMMY BREAD GUARANTEED! 🙂

OG Comes to Parkhill 2024!
Continuing our MSL and synthetic phonics journey in 2024, we are proud to host the Orton Gillingham training at Parkhill Primary School. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone working in education or allied health (such as speech pathology or occupational therapy) to take up this week of training here at Parkhill. The first four days are basic certification with an optional fifth day of advanced morphology training. Hosting a training week also means that we can send our own staff at a reduced rate to this valuable PD. If you know of any people who OG training would appeal to, please book via the links at the bottom of the flyer.
