The Parkhill Community touch the land and think of the Wurundjeri People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land we promise to treasure it; taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways.
We at Parkhill appreciate this land.
Thank you.
Principal's Message
We’ve had another busy and exciting week at Parkhill PS this week with lots of exciting incursions and excursions.
The Shadow Puppet incursion on Wednesday was a fabulous reflection of our language program and I know all the students enjoyed this special event.
Along with the shadow puppets, our Y1/2s went to CERES sustainability park. They were delighted with the activities and the surroundings, and, as one of the Y1s commented to me afterwards, CERES was very similar to our school with the gardens and chickens.
The other event this week was the visit to the National Gallery of Victoria for our Y4/5 students. Everyone I have spoken to in the grades enjoyed the visit, although I spoke to one gentleman in Y5 who was reticent prior to going. When I caught up with him at the end of the day however he said: “It was actually really good Ms Jolly” – relatively high praise I think!
School and organisational culture is something that has always interested me. Having experiences in several schools with different learning cultures has increased my curiosity on how school-wide culture evolves and develops. I want to thank our families and community who are having discussions with students regarding school pride, personal accountability and commitment to demonstrating our Parkhill values. To celebrate this, I’d like to share some snippets from an email I received from the National Gallery after our school visit:
“I was impressed by how prepared the students were. They were respectful in the gallery spaces and aware of other patrons. They were very eager and enthusiastic . . .they participated in each activity with real sincerity.”
“It was a delight to spend time and learn with Parkhill Primary. We hope their experience today supported and extended their inquiry into creativity and inspiration. We’d love for Parkhill PS to visit again soon!”
A great commendation indeed: well done on representing our school so well Y4/5s!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone, and to those attending the PFA Trivia Night event this Saturday I’ll look forward to seeing you then.

Shadow Puppet Incursion
Last week, Aaron the shadow puppets showman came to visit us at Parkhill. It was the first time for a lot of us to watch a live shadow puppet show. The students had many laughs while listening and watching this traditional Chinese art form. The original materials of the puppets were made from donkey skins along with joined arms and legs. We also had the opportunity to make one of our own puppets with moving arms and legs during the workshop.

Y1/2 Excursion to CERES
An absolutely beautiful day to get out of the classroom and visit CERES environment park. Students spent the day learning important information that supported our inquiry into reduce, reuse, recycle while also having fun in the sun!
If you get a chance, ask them what their favourite part of the day was. Was it when they checked out the worm farm and had a chance to hold a worm? Was it following the trail to a litter trap and looking out for happy platypuses? Or was it getting to use recycled materials to make their own paper?
I know my favourite part was the 6Rs Dance!

AFRICAN MUSIC CELEBRATION- FRIDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER 2:30PM
Please save the date for an end of term African Music Celebration. This term in Performing Arts students are exploring African music through singing, drumming, instrument playing and dancing. Students will also have the opportunity to attend an African music incursion next Friday 18th August. Please see Compass for more details.
We would like to showcase student’s learning by presenting the songs they have been practising in class for their families in a special African Music Assembly on Friday 8th September at 2:30pm in the hall. To add colour to our afternoon, children will perform in a plain, brightly coloured t-shirt (no writing or logos please). It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide this for your child please and send it to school (with their name written on the tag) on Wednesday 30th August. If you require assistance, please reach out.
Thanks for your support!

OG Comes to Parkhill 2024!
Continuing our MSL and synthetic phonics journey in 2024, we are proud to host the Orton Gillingham training at Parkhill Primary School. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone working in education or allied health (such as speech pathology or occupational therapy) to take up this week of training here at Parkhill. The first four days are basic certification with an optional fifth day of advanced morphology training. Hosting a training week also means that we can send our own staff at a reduced rate to this valuable PD. If you know of any people who OG training would appeal to, please book via the links at the bottom of the flyer.
