The Parkhill Community touch the land and think of the Wurundjeri People and surrounding Clans of the Kulin Nation who cared for the land before us.
We share our gratitude to their Elders past, present and emerging.
As we touch this land we promise to treasure it; taking care of all its people, animals, plants and waterways.
We at Parkhill appreciate this land.
Thank you.
Principal's Message
Another windy few days at Parkhill Primary School this week! In spite of the wind however it has been wonderful getting out into the yard during mornings and lunchtimes to meet with students and families.
This week also saw the release of NAPLAN data. The student hard copy reports, which have just arrived at school, will be sent home today. The new NAPLAN has been divided into 4 bands (as opposed to the previous 8) and marks a new period of assessment style for the governing body VCAA. It is heartening to see that in Y5 our students achieved steady results in both the “Strong” and “Exceeding” bands in Spelling, Writing and Reading. In Y3 our students achieved most in Numeracy (Exceeding), with good results in the “Strong” band for all other areas, especially Writing. Well done to our students and teachers!
While wintery and cold, it was great to see everyone supporting Pyjama Day today; thank you to the SRC for organising and supporting the Foster Families cause. We welcomed a bit of “couch potato” with lots of Oodies, dressing gowns and flannelette to keep us warm. Thank you to the SRC for organising this day, the donations on which go to supporting Foster Care Australia.
In other great news Michelle has organised for a contractor to investigate fixing our boundary fencing between Ashwood College and some of our side fences, with the work to be completed soon.
Rug up and keep warm everyone! If you’re still enjoying Pyjama Day, have a wonderful Friday night in, and a relaxing weekend.

Crazy Hair Day on Friday!
Wigs, hair dye, pigtails, man buns – a reminder that it’s all on the table for Crazy Hair Day on Friday the 28th!
SRC are raising funds and student awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. By showing up to school with crazy hair, we are sending the message that it’s okay to be different – in fact diversity should be celebrated! Students will participate in learning along these lines in Care Groups on Tuesday next week. SRC acknowledges that this is soon after Pyjama Day, but we decided that cystic fibrosis is a worthy cause and Crazy Hair Day was a day on our calendar not to be missed. It is a gold coin donation with all funds going to the charity and we are looking forward to seeing your crazy hair on Friday!

Principal Meet and Greet
For the next four Fridays I will be welcoming community to come and meet with me in the school staff room for a cuppa, chat and catch up. I would love to see as many as possible of you all from 9am to 10am starting next Friday 28th. This is a casual way for you to meet me if we haven’t already caught up in the yard, so if you can spare ten minutes or like to stay for more, I would love to see you!

Pyjama Day
There was a particularly cosy, warm and positive atmosphere at Parkhill Primary school today. I noticed it straight away when I arrived to see Marinda and the school choir all singing in their pyjamas, dressing gowns, onesies, oodies and slippers!
It was of course Pyjama Day today and the SRC would like to thank all the parents and students for supporting the Pyjama Foundation. The school ended up raising $191.40 for kids in foster care.

Performing Arts Update
Sea turtles, Tasmanian devils and sharks were on display in Performing Arts this week as the Y4/5 students performed their Endangered Animal Puppet Shows for the Foundation to Y3 students. Students researched threats to endangered animals, created their own puppets and wrote scripts to teach the junior students how they can help to save endangered animals.

This Week in STEAM
In STEAM, Y6 students have been learning about animal adaptations; the physical or behavioural features of animals that help them survive in their changing environment. Chopsticks, wooden spoons, tweezers, tongs and syringes were used as bird beaks to experiment picking up (eating) different food types to explore which beak or bill type is best adapted to a range of food sources.

Dear Parkhill Families,
“Happy Winds-day” – Winnie the Pooh
The cold and windy days this week bring to mind the story of the windy, blustery day. I am appreciating the specialness of winter: hot cuppas, backyard fires, curling up with a good book/movie, the sun peeking through the clouds, winter woollies, comfort food and the thought that spring is not far behind.

Lost Property
Please see the photo of all of the drink bottles and plastics that were in the Lost Property – they are all unlabelled so we unable to return them to their owners. If one of these is your child’s please get them to come and see Mrs D’Arcy. We also had a heap of unlabelled jackets which will now get washed and go into the next Second Hand Uniform Stall.
